Yunuen Gonzalez

I am Yunuen, the oldest daughter of first generation immigrant parents from Michoacán. Soy orgullósamente Purhépecha- the drive to the work I do in education and art.

Born in Long Beach, California and raised all over Southeast Los Angeles, I am proud to be a product of the riverbed communities. Once marginalized from the greater Los Angeles art scene, my community now flourishes with its own unique culture of grassroots organizing and popular art that defines the resilience in its members.

I reside in the East L.A., home for more than a decade. It nurtured my artistic abilities and supported the beginning of my work as an artist and grassroots organizer.

As a public school teacher for almost 10 years in South Central L.A., my work is geared to providing ethnic studies enriched curriculum and instruction using community art.

I have a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with an Option in Urban Learning, a Bachelor of Arts in Mexican-American Studies: with an Option in Education, and a Teaching Credential in the Spanish Subject.

Soon to be the 1% of Latinas with their Doctorate Degree… soon.
